A new float trip tradition. Fish taco Tuesdays. In this case they were of the Dolly Varden variety.

A 20 inch class grayling. The group landed lots of these in the upper river. Big grayling were everywhere during the first half of the trip.

  • Here Dolly, Dolly.

    images/11_08_alaska/photos/27-inch-dollie-sso.jpg

It's fun to feel the wiggle with all Dolly Varden, but once they get over 24" they're really fun! We were lucky enough to hook lots of 24-28" fish

  • An afternoon fishing break

    images/11_08_alaska/photos/afternoon-fishing-break-sso.jpg

We caught some marginal weather early and late in the trip, but mid-week was absolutely stellar.

  • Cha Ching... Silver in the bank.

    images/11_08_alaska/photos/big-coho-salmon-sso.jpg

We put the light rods away after day 4 and turned our attention to chasing early lower river silvers. We were not disappointed.

  • Thank you Dolly, may I have another?

    images/11_08_alaska/photos/28-inch-dollie-sso.jpg

A 28 inch Dolly Varden. Nothing like a steelhead size fish on a four weight.

  • Relaxing at Sunset, Life is good.

    images/11_08_alaska/photos/relaxed-sunset-sso.jpg

We've done a lot of these trips over the years and this one was one of the best. A true epic journey.
